Occupy Calaveras!

The very first Occupy Calaveras happened on Thursday, November 17. Even with very short notice, about a dozen people stood on the corner of Hwy 49 and Mountain Ranch Road and received enthusiastic support from passersby.

A new website, www.occupymotherlode.org has been set up to get the word out about other Occupy events throughout the Motherlode. If you know of an event you would like to include on the site, email the details to info@occupymotherlode.org.

The next Occupy Calaveras is scheduled for Thursday, December 1, 3:00 - 5:30 pm, same location. Hope to see you there!

Looking for New Members

With all the renewed interest in what's going on around the country as well as in our own backyard, there's been no better time to be a Democrat.

We're looking for new members of the Calaveras County Democratic Central Committee (CCDCC) and the Democratic Club. We are also looking to revitalize a second Club.

If you agree that it's time to get off the couch, please contact us to get more information about opportunities to devote as much or as little time as you may have available to help in upcoming elections, fundraisers, get out the vote efforts, or just meeting people of like minds.

Email info@calaverasdemocrats.org, or call (209) 559-2673.

The Recall
Darren Spellman Campaign

Many Calaveras Democrats are active in the Recall Darren Spellman Campaign - even those who do not live in District 5. They understand that the actions of a supervisor reflect on the entire county, not just the district they represent.

From the day Mr. Spellman was sworn in, he has a less than distinguished history:

  • He has insulted constituents and fellow board members

  • He as not attended meetings of multi-county organizations for which he was the representative from Calaveras

  • He has stormed out of Board meetings when his motion has not received a second or he hasn't like how a vote has gone

  • He has opposed grants that would help the County provide services

  • Just to name a few . . .

You can help too by making phone calls, manning booths at Payless Market in Copperopolis or MarVal and CVS in Valley Springs.

If you would like to help, please contact info@calaverasdemocrats.org. We can provide you with call lists or get you scheduled for a shift.

It's Not Too Late to Get Your
Mother Lode Democrats Polo Shirt

An important goal of Calaveras Democrats is to be more visible. If you've ever heard someone say, "I didn't know there were any other Democrats in Calaveras County," then you know why this is important.

There are over 9,000 of us and we are active in our communities, we volunteer, we work hard, and we are patriotic.

Now you have a chance to show them who we are. When you help at Habitat for Humanity, or the Food Bank, or with Santa's Express, or at any of the hundreds of events throughout the county during the year, you can wear your shirt to identify yourself as a proud Democrat.

The shirts are a high-quality 100% cotton polo shirt embroidered with the Democratic Donkey and Motherlode Democrats and are being made available throughout the foothill counties. The shirts come in men's and women's styles in sizes small to 4X. If you would like to order a shirt, or would like more information, please click here,
email info@calaverasdemocrats.org, or call 209.559.2673.

Let's Be Friends

The County Democratic Central Committee has authorized Tristan Jones, a politically aware Bret Harte High School student, to create a Facebook page for Calaveras Democrats. It's really exciting having Tristan generate enthusiasm among young people in our county.
